The first day of classes brought a great deal of excitement as well as nervousness. My day started out with an 8:45 lecture for my Cambridge Writers class, a class detailing the lives of great writers who studied at the University whose studies, or rebellion against their studies, produced some of the most incredible works of literature in the English language and around the world.
After this class my friend Claire and I left the Pembroke campus and headed over to King's college, mainly for their superior coffee shop, as well as to finally check out King's claim to fame, the chapel.
The chapel at King's is truly remarkable. When one walks in, their eyes are immediately drawn up to the grand stained glass windows that line all four walls, light streaming in from the morning sun. Past that, their eyes will pass over the ornate carvings that adorn the ceiling. The incredible gothic design of the cathedral is truly breathtaking and is well worth a visit if one would ever find themselves in Cambridge.
After lunch in the Hall, it was time for my next class: Metaphysics and the Philosophy of the Mind. Having never interacted with philosophy before I was apprehensive about taking the class, but the first lecture proved my worries unnecessary as it was incredibly interesting and I was able to (pretty much) follow along.
That night was the the first of our highly anticipated Formal Halls. I will explain this Cambridge tradition in my next post, as I definitely don't want to skimp on any details of these amazing nights and all they encompass.
Bye for now!!
