Formal Hall is an elaborate dinner served by candlelight in one of the grand, historic college halls. The meal begins with a drinks reception on the manicured lawns of the college (the one time we are actually allowed on the grass!!) followed, after the ringing of a dinner gong, by the three course meal in the hall.
These special celebratory meals are a long standing tradition, and for good reason as they are quite the event. Admittedly, the inner Harry Potter fan in me was in ecstasy as I felt like I was dining in the Great Hall at Hogwarts, as the hall at King's is equally as grand and as beautiful as its magical counterpart in the novels and films. This is one Cambridge tradition I very much look forward to participating in as much as I can during my time here!
