HELLO CAMBRIDGE!

Updated: Jul 10, 2018

Today has been a day so long in the making because today I moved into the University of Cambridge to begin my adventure of studying at Pembroke and King's Colleges for the summer!

I have truly been in awe ever since I stepped out of the door of my cab. Everywhere you turn in this incredible city there are captivating ornate buildings housing the incredible intelligence that has fostered the talents of some of the most talented and brilliant people whose education has enabled them to become some of the most influential politicians, scientists, philosophers, thinkers, artists, and more over recent centuries. To be quite honest I feel simultaneously honored and terrified, but more than anything I am so excited.

My journey leading up to this program has been long and difficult, but I know all the work I have put into getting here will prove beyond worth it!

To give a little background on me, I am from the Chicago area and I am currently studying musical theatre performance with a minor in English at Illinois Wesleyan University. I knew I wanted to study abroad at some point in my academic career, and I realized that the summer after my freshman year would be the best time to do it, so I applied to a few different programs, hoping beyond hope I would be accepted to the Pembroke-King’s Programme that has been a tradition with Cambridge for the last twenty years. I remember my heart seeming to drop out of my chest as I opened the email, tears coming to my eyes as I learned I would get to spend my summer in Cambridge!

That day seems so long ago now as I am sitting in a Cambridge tee shirt the day before classes start, typing out the details of my journey here. I am so incredibly thankful. I have been walking around Cambridge exploring the different colleges and seeing the places where some of the most intelligent minds from across the world come to create and to think and cannot believe that I am getting to join the legacy of Cambridge’s students who have passed through these halls. I cannot wait to see what these weeks have in store. So come along with me on my journey over the next six weeks to see my experience of studying at Pembroke and King’s Colleges this summer!
